Standalone Internet Explorer 6 for Testing
by Castwide on 7-29-2009 Tags: cross-browser, ie, multipleIE, standalone 0 commentsIt finally happened. Every Windows computer in my office is running Internet Explorer 7 or higher. Unfortunately, IE 6 still accounts for too much traffic to ignore. Instead of rolling back on one of my workstations, I decided to look for options that would let me run both versions. The best solution I found was MultipleIE from TredoSoft.
The fine folks at TredoSoft took parts from existing solutions, such as Evolt's archive of standalone IE browsers, Joe Maddalone's work, and Manfred Staudinger's article at Position Is Everything, and released an executable that can install several different flavors of IE at once, going all the way back to version 3. I was only interested in 6, so that's the only one I checked in the install wizard.
The good news: it works great. The bad news: it only works in XP, and it's no longer supported. Lucky for me I still have a couple machines that haven't gone Vista. Check the page at TredoSoft for downloads and information about ongoing efforts.
